Apple Pie Pop Tarts Are the Best Mini Apple Pies

Apple pie pop tarts are the best individual apple pies you can make. They are absolutely adorable and easy to eat. No cutting slices of pie and having the filling ooze out onto the pie plate. Just pick up each apple pie pop tart and bite into a delicious dessert or a scrumptious breakfast!

Individual Apple Pies

There is almost nothing better than the smell of a homemade apple pie, when it’s baking in the oven. The apple aroma instantly makes your mouth water! You can just imagine yourself cutting a heaping slice of warm apple pie and adding some real vanilla ice cream on top before gobbling it up.

Warm apple pie is really a spectacular, American classic. And as spectacular as it is, mini apple pies are just that much better. I think it’s because they are the perfect size for each person. You don’t have to slice into the whole pie. Rather, you just pick up your mini apple pie and bite into it. With these apple pie pop tarts, there is little mess when compared to a slice of apple pie. The ooey-gooey apples that we love so much are still in these pop tarts, but they are enveloped in the pie crust, making them very easy to eat. Oh, and another great thing about mini apple pies? You can eat more than one and not feel so guilty. Two are still fairly small so it’s totally fine to have a second helping : )

Apple Pie American Dessert

Apple Pie is a long standing American dessert. You know the phrase, as American as apple pie? It seems somewhat silly because apple pies didn’t originate in America. And apples aren’t native to America either! So how did apple pie become an American staple??

Apple pies originated in England and consisted of much more than apples. In fact, the apple pies consisted of figs, pears, raisins, and even saffron as well as apples. Over many years of tweaking the apple pie recipe, Americans developed a sweeter version that consists of a juicy apple filling with cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Additionally, throughout the years, the presentation of the pies have gone to a new level with fancy lattice and cut outs on top of the pie crust. As the tasty pies evolved, Americans were proud of their dessert. Their pride for their dessert is a symbolism of American pride. Who knew it was such a deep thing?!

Dessert, Snack, or Breakfast?

These apple pie pop tarts can be served as a tasty treat for dessert. However, if you are feeling daring, you could heat up the individual pies and eat them for a special breakfast option! That’s right, pop tarts can be breakfast breads – if you don’t believe me, just think of the aisle where you find them in the supermarket. Yep, the breakfast aisle!

If you make the apple pie pop tarts the night before for dessert, store them in an airtight container and put them in the refrigerator. Just pop the pop tart into the microwave for 15 to 20 seconds and voila! Or you could toast up the apple pop tarts in a preheated (350 degrees) toaster oven for 5 minutes to warm up these yummy snacks.

Another option for these pies is to give them to your kids for their morning (or afternoon) snack. You can feel good about giving these snacks since they aren’t loaded with preservatives. Homemade cooking and baking is the way to go for delicious and healthier food after all.

Ingredients

  • 2 Pie Crust Dough make your own or Pillsbury ready made
  • butter melted
  • 4 Apples peeled and chopped
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 1 tbsp Cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp Apple Pie Spice

Apple Selection

For the apples, choose whatever apples taste the best to you. Many recipes call for granny smith apples because they are crisp and have a sour flavor which makes them a great option, when pairing it with sweet ingredients like white and brown sugars and cinnamon.

However, I prefer to use gala or honey crisp apples for my recipes. There are two reasons for this. The first reason is because we always seem to have honey crisp or gala apples readily available in my house! Easy is always great, in my opinion. The second reason I choose honey crisp or gala apples is because of their sweetness. If I’m going to bake with apples, I prefer all sweet over sour – that’s just me. You can choose whichever you like. You could even mix up a little of sweet with sour – whatever you prefer works!

Apple Pie French Toast A New Take On Breakfast

Apple Pie French Toast is an easy breakfast recipe that looks, sounds, and tastes extravagant. If you love the taste of baked apples because of the buttery and sweet flavor, it only makes sense to add this delectable taste to your favorite breakfast – French Toast, that is.

Just peel and chop up some apples, sauté them in butter, sugar, cinnamon, and some apple pie spice, then top your French Toast with this delicious topping. Oh, you could always go overboard and add some whipped cream to the apple topping as well. Why not, right?

French Toast

French Toast is a breakfast favorite. But why is it such a favorite breakfast and brunch staple? Because French Toast is considered a comfort food and comfort foods are always favorites. So why do we love comfort foods so much? Well, French Toast, specifically this Apple Pie French Toast is like eating a warm, toasted, bread pudding-like dessert for breakfast. Do I really need to elaborate as to why this type of food would be a favorite amongst brunch-ers? Probably not, but I will!

The warm goodness of the hearty and scrumptious tasting bread gives you a full feeling which makes you feel good inside. A little while after you finish it, you might feel guilty which isn’t such a comforting feeling, but that’s another story altogether!

From a scientific perspective, comfort foods give you a boost of dopamine and make you feel warm and fuzzy inside, when you eat them. On a more psychological side, eating comfort foods usually reminds us of special times such as family parties, holidays, and other fun times that we indulged in sweet, comforting foods. It’s nostalgic in a way.

So there you have it, we love comfort foods like this Apple Pie French Toast because of science and our love of eating! As long as you eat these types of breakfasts in moderation, you can dig in without guilt!

How Do You Avoid Soggy Bread

French Toast is like a fried up Bread Pudding to some extent. You soak up each piece of bread in an egg and milk mixture and then toast it on a hot pan. This makes the bread slightly crunchy on the outside, yet almost creamy on the inside. Therefore, if the bread is too thin, the egg and milk mixture will overtake the bread and it will become soggy. Nobody wants to eat soggy French Toast. Although it will still be edible, soggy French Toast is not desired. With the anticipation of a yummy breakfast, you won’t want to go through the motions of prepping everything and cooking it up only to bite into a mushy piece of bread. That would be such a disappointment.

Best Bread For French Toast

Realistically, you can use whatever bread you want for this Apple Pie French Toast. However, if you want to have the BEST presentation and taste, you might consider using a thicker type of bread.

However, if the bread is too thick, the French Toast won’t actually cook through the center of the bread, leaving it falling short of that creamy texture. It’s a fine balance, for sure. Therefore, the ideal thickness for the perfect French toast bread is approximately 1″ thick. Basically, you want to choose a bread that is both spongy to soak up the egg and milk mixture, but sturdy enough to hold it without becoming soggy and mushy. The best French Toast will be scrumptious, not soggy.

Great bread choices for French Toast

Brioche

Brioche French bread by origin. It almost has a cake like quality due to it’s high egg and butter content. It’s very rich and thick. Additionally, it is very tasty which you would expect based on the high egg and butter content! The taste and thickness makes brioche a great bread choice for this Apple Pie French Toast.

Texas Toast

Texas toast is a toasted bread with butter that is a thicker sliced bread that you would find in the packaged bread aisle in your local grocery store. The thickness of the bread is basically double that of normal sandwich bread. Again, the sturdy appeal of Texas toast leads it to be a front runner when choosing the best bread for this yummy Apple Pie French Toast. No soggy French toast with this bread.

French Bread

French bread is a long, thin loaf of bread that has a crunchy crust that surrounds the bread. You really have to bite this bread because it has a strong consistency. Again, consistency is key when selecting the best bread for making French Toast. If you are looking to make a tasty breakfast and want to avoid soggy toast, French bread is a great option for this Apple Pie French Toast.

Ingredients

I mentioned above that you can use whatever bread you would like for this Apple Pie French Toast, but for sake of argument, the recipe calls for either a loaf of brioche or Texas toast bread. Those are my recommendations, take them or leave them!

  • 1 loaf Bread Brioche or Texas Toast

  • 1/2 cup Milk
  • 4 Apples peeled and chopped
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 1 tbsp Cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp Apple Pie Spice

Instructions

  • Melt butter in a med saucepan over medium heat.
  • Add chopped apples and cook for 5 minutes so that the apples soften – mix periodically.
  • Add cinnamon and apple pie spice and mix well.
  • Cook for another 5 minutes.

Ham, Egg, & Cheese Cups

Ham, Egg, and Cheese Cups sounds interesting, but what exactly are they? Actually, they are pretty straightforward. Scrambled eggs, topped with cheese and cooked in a ham cup. Now you are probably wondering, what is a ham cup? Fascinating enough, a ham cup is just a piece of deli ham that is placed in a muffin tin and acts as a cupcake liner for the scrambled eggs and cheese. Basically, this yummy breakfast is a low carb, eat on the go, breakfast that actually fills you up. You can’t saw that about most low carb options, can you?

Scrambled Eggs

Scrambled eggs have been around for centuries. In fact, some say cave people prepared scrambled eggs. Can you imagine that? I can’t imagine cave people venturing out and creating culinary dishes at all. I don’t think I would be as daring as they were in trying different meats, veggies, and spices together!

If you live under a rock, I’ll fill you in on what scrambled eggs are. Scrambled eggs is an easy, quick, and tasty way to cook eggs. Novice chefs will have no problem cooking this yummy breakfast. It’s one of the first meals I ever learned to cook. True story!

All you need are some eggs, a little milk, a greased pan, and some heat. Oh, and you will want a spatula or large spoon to keep the eggs from overheating in the pan as they cook.

The interesting thing about scrambled eggs is they are a mild tasting breakfast, yet as you cook them, the eggs basically coagulate and create curds of eggs. Generally, you don’t want to eat dairy that has coagulated and forms curds! Yet, we scramble up eggs and cook them to that consistency and truly enjoy them!

Ingredients Needed

This breakfast is loaded with protein. I absolutely love. And one of the best things is that you won’t need too many different ingredients to make it! Just some eggs, milk, salt, pepper, cheese, and ham.

Here are the exact measurements for each of the ingredients:

  • 10 Eggs
  • 1/8 cup Milk
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • 1 lb Ham deli meat

How To Make

These ham, egg, and cheese cups are super easy to make. If you know how to make scrambled eggs, you are almost there! Don’t fret if you haven’t made scrambled eggs before, they are super easy. Just follow my instructions and you will be fine.

Scrambled Eggs

  • Crack egg and empty egg into a medium size bowl. Repeat with each egg. Discard shells.
  • Add milk to the bowl.
  • Whisk eggs and milk well.
  • Add salt and pepper to taste.
  • Lightly spray frying pan with cooking spray.
  • Heat pan over medium heat.
  • Once pan is heated, add eggs to the pan.
  • Scrape the bottom of the eggs every couple of minutes so that they scramble. Turn heat to medium-low.
  • After approx 5 – 7 remove from heat.

Ham, Egg, and Cheese Cups

  • Preheat Oven to 375 degrees F.
  • Lightly spray muffin tin with cooking spray.
  • Put 1 piece of deli ham in each muffin tin so that it forms a cup.
  • Once eggs are cooked, add a scoop of scrambled eggs into each ham cup. Repeat until all cups have eggs in them.
  • Top the eggs with cheddar cheese.
  • Cook for 11 minutes so that the cheese is fully melted.
  • Serve immediately.

Low Carb

Truth be told, I haven’t joined the no carb/low carb movement. Honestly, I’m a little obsessed (okay, a lot obsessed) with carbs, in general! I am Italian after all. I mean, a girl needs her pasta and bread…and junk food. Giving up carbs is not something I choose to do. I would rather exercise more in order to eat the foods I love so much.

However, I do realize that sticking with a low carb diet does have tremendous health benefits that can help many people lose weight. If you are one of those super strong people with willpower, and you are into the keto diet or low carb meals, I commend you. You have much more inner strength than me!

Bananas Foster French Toast Makes An Amazing Breakfast

Bananas Foster French Toast is a great way to upgrade your regular French toast breakfast. This deliciously sweet dish combines your typical French toast with an amazing syrupy glaze of toasted pecans and bananas. The tasty syrupy glaze is the bananas foster and that is where the magic happens!

You could cook this yummy breakfast on the weekends or if you are hosting brunch at your home. Honestly, you could serve this yummy breakfast during the work week. Your kids would be on a sugar high as they leave for school! Maybe that wouldn’t be fair to their teachers, but your children will love you for making this for them.

Bananas Foster

Bananas foster is a dessert that originated in New Orleans. The dessert consists of butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, bananas, and rum. The rum provides a kick in flavor, but it is mostly added so that the dessert can be ignited. It creates quite the display, when restaurants offer this dessert. They typically prepare it table side so that you have the experience as well as the delectable taste.

Not only is the bananas foster delicious by itself, but it is usually served with other desserts. For example, it can be served on top of ice cream. How is that for a spectacular ice cream sundae? It can also be used as filling inside a crepe. Mmm, that sounds so good, I am dying to make this recipe! Finally, you can make this delicious dessert and serve it on top of your french toast! Why the heck not, right? It’s so good and it will really bring your regular breakfast to an extraordinary breakfast!

Ingredients Needed

You will need a good amount of ingredients for the banana foster french toast, but nothing is out of the ordinary. In fact, if you have some very ripe bananas, you can feel good about repurposing them with this recipe! No need to toss them because they are starting to turn brown, they will do great in this yummy french toast!

Here is what you will need:

French Toast

  • 1 loaf Brioche Bread
  • 5 eggs Whisked
  • 1/2 cup Milk
  • 2 tsp Cinnamon

Bananas Foster

  • 2 Bananas Ripe, sliced
  • 1 cup Pecans
  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 tsp Rum Extract

Brioche vs. Regular bread

If you get the craving to cook this bananas foster french toast recipe and you don’t have brioche bread on hand and you don’t have time to go to the store to get it, don’t worry you can still make this breakfast without it. Just substitute the brioche bread with regular sandwich bread and this recipe will still be great! You will need some kind of bread, however. So if you don’t have that on hand, you will be out of luck for the time being!

Brioche bread is the preferred bread for this french toast or any french toast for that matter because it is similar to a pastry. It is a French bread that has a high egg and butter content which give it that rich and fluffy texture. This is the perfect bread to top with bananas foster. It makes it a true dessert-like breakfast. Yum!

Making The French Toast

This recipe is pretty long, however, it is really easy. More than half the recipe describes how to cook French Toast. Therefore, if you know how to make that, you can skip those instructions and go right for the “good stuff”, the bananas foster topping!

French Toast

  • Whisk the eggs in shallow bowl, but medium size bowl.

  • Add more butter or non-stick cooking spray, if needed.
  • Toast the new batch of coated bread until golden brown. Remove from heat, when cooked.
  • Repeat this process until all of the bread has been cooked.

Making The Bananas Foster

Here is what you have been waiting for, the actual recipe for the bananas foster topping. You could use this recipe as it is intended and top your french toast with it. Frozen Yogurt Bark

Frozen Yogurt Bark is a healthy snack that you can eat for breakfast or throughout the day as a yummy treat. You can customize the bark with different flavors, textures, whatever you want. I chose to make a vanilla, raspberry, toasted coconut frozen yogurt bark. How’s that for a description? Pretty long, right? It was amazing though and I highly recommend making this.

Frozen yogurt bark doesn’t require much preparation and it requires ZERO cooking. ZERO! Recap, very little prep and no cooking. Oh, and I almost forgot, this is a healthy snack! This amazing snack checks all the boxes for something sweet, creamy, and appetizing to eat.

Bark Ingredients

The prep work is minimal and the main reason for that is because there aren’t a lot of ingredients that go into it. It’s a very simple snack, but sometimes less is more, right? And that is definitely the case when it comes to this frozen yogurt bark.

For the Frozen Vanilla, Raspberry, Toasted Coconut Yogurt Bark, you will need:

  • 2 cups Vanilla Yogurt
  • 1/2 cup Toasted Coconut Almonds Blue Diamond makes them pre-packaged
  • 1/2 cup Raspberries fresh or frozen

Making The Bark

As previously mentioned, there is minimal preparation for this snack and it requires no cooking. Therefore, making this frozen yogurt bark is super easy and requires little effort on you. The best part about that is that you, your family, and friends will all love this tasty treat. You don’t need to slave over recipes for everyone to enjoy them and this is one of those perfect examples of that.

That being said, you do have to do something to make this yummy snack. First, line a baking sheet with parchment paper to fit. After that, spread out the vanilla yogurt so that it covers most of the baking sheet. Be careful not to spread the yogurt too thin. If it’s too thin, the yogurt will get icy, when it freezes. We want the yogurt to be thick enough that retains the yogurt flavor and isn’t overridden by an icy consistency.

After the yogurt is laid out, move on to the raspberries. Cut each raspberry into 2 or 3 pieces and sprinkle them throughout the yogurt. Make sure you drop them into the yogurt enough that they will not fall out, but don’t push them into the yogurt. You don’t want to bury the berries!

Finally, move on to the almonds. I used toasted coconut almonds by Blue Diamond. If you haven’t heard of or tried these, you need to buy some asap. For real! They are DELIGHTFULLY DELICIOUS. Each almond tastes like a coconut cookie. And they are healthy! So much so I want to eat the whole bag. Of course, that would nullify the healthiness so I try to control myself. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Anyway, crush up the almonds and then sprinkle the pieces over the yogurt.

All that is left is to freeze up the bark. Place the pan in the freezer for a minimum of 2 hours. Once solidified, break off a piece of the frozen yogurt bark and enjoy a slice of frozen heaven!

Perfect Frozen Snack

If you are in the mood for something cold, you might opt for some ice cream. Perhaps, an icy popsicle or freeze pop. All of those frozen treats are great for cooling you down and satisfying the urge for something sweet and frosty.

However, wouldn’t you prefer to have a healthy and nutritional frozen snack? Yogurt is high in protein and low in fat and calories when compared to it’s evil step-sister, ice cream. There are a variety of flavors and levels of fat; regular, low fat, and no fat. Even at the ‘regular’ level or full fat version of yogurt, there is less fat than in the same serving of ice cream! Yes, it’s true and it’s just as delicious. Maybe not as creamy, but just as tasty.

If you whip up a batch of frozen yogurt bark, you can satisfy your ice cream cravings and keep your levels of fats and calories for the day in check. And keep your frosty sweet tooth happy.

Eat It Quickly

Ice cream melts quickly and frozen yogurt does too! When you take the frozen yogurt bark out of the freezer, make sure you break apart what you are serving and serve it immediately. It will melt as soon as it touches the warm air. Don’t worry if it starts to get mushy, you can put it back in the freezer and it will harden up again. Just don’t leave it out for a prolonged amount of time. You don’t want the yogurt to get too warm, especially on a hot day. Just like all dairy products, they don’t do well in a warm climate for an extended amount of time because the bacteria could get you sick.

You probably don’t have to worry about leaving this yogurt out for too long though. This frozen treat is so good, you probably won’t have leftovers to re-freeze!
